Biomechanical Assessment
Each human being is born unique and it is rare to have absolute symmetry of our feet and legs. Many of us are born with mild deformities or they occur due to wear and tear of the ageing process or injury.
The result is that when we stand, walk or run our body has to compensate for these anomalies. It is these compensations that put structures such as muscles, joints, ligaments and tendons under undue strain as they begin functioning in an abnormal or compromised manner. Over time the structures become inflamed or injured resulting in pain and immobility.
Biomechanics is the examination and diagnosis of such problems to help treat painful musculoskeletal or orthopaedic conditions mainly affecting the foot, ankle, knee, hip and back.
Biomechanics Assessment
A Biomechanics assessment is an investigation into your lower limb function – looking closely for abnormalities and compensations. We can look closely into the underlying possible causes of foot pain, ankle pain, heel pain, knee pain and even back pain
Once we have identified the causes of your problems we can develop a tailor made treatment plan to reduce your symptoms. Our unique biomechanical assessment developed by our skilled podiatrists with years of knowledge, will take about 45mins. A thorough medical history, with physical examination and postural testing.
The biomechanical assessment finding helps form the basic treatment plan. You can expect an advanced technique full lower limb assessment of the way you stand and walk and where necessary of your running gait, to also help with sports injuries.
We use our findings to suggest a treatment package which may include:
- Exercises to stretch or strengthen muscles
- 3D Laser Orthotics or Prescription Sandals for postural correction
- Referral on to other members of the team if further specialist advice or treatment is needed
What Should I Bring to the Appointment?
You will need to bring a t shirt and shorts to change into so our Podiatrist can see your back and knees and feet in order to complete a thorough examination. Also bring your commonly used footwear. The wear marks can help build up a better picture of your walking habits.
Our highly experienced clinicians have been trained extensively in the study of biomechanics and prescription orthotics with many years of experience working for the NHS and/or in the private sector.
