Child Walking Problems
Paediatric Podiatry – Solving Childrens Walking/Foot/Leg Problems
The Biomechanix Foot & Knee Clinic is run by a consultant who has specialised in solving children’s foot problems for over 7 years. We welcome children of all ages to the clinic.
Children’s foot and walking problems can be of great parental concern. Walking problems are often asymptomatic and are first noticed when the child walks. Their gait may look unusual, awkward, shoes may show signs of uneven wear and they may even trip a lot.
Children can also suffer from a range of symptomatic problems affecting the foot and lower leg. Children may complain of “growing pains” at night or pain during or after sport.
Common children’s problems that we treat include:
- Flat feet
- Knock knees
- Bow legs
- Severs disease (heel pain)
- Osgood-Schlatter disease (knee pain)
- Children’s sports injuries
- Gait abnormalities
- Knee pain
- Postural problems
- Spinal bl V /V l problems
- Hip problems
It is essential to identify as early as possible any problems that might need specialist treatment in order to prevent problems later in life. Our consultant is experienced with children of all ages. They will perform a thorough history and examination including gait analysis to identify the source of the problem. Generally most children's lower limb problems are not of great concern and can be satisfactorily resolved with the right treatment. Occasionally there is a need to refer the patient for surgery.
Forms of treatment include:
- Exercise & Rehabilitation
- Orthoses/Prosthetics (prescription insoles)
- AFO/DAFO/Gait plates
- Custom Made Prescription Footwear
